I was born with a river soul
alwaysseekingneverstopping
no one tells the river to stop
slow down     accept what she has

no one asks the river if she is happy

it doesn’t mean the river doesn’t love
the glitter of every fish that glides through her
every polished bone of earth she tumbles over
the belly-laugh of every child splashing at her banks

no ones suggests the river ought to be
more complacent
more serene

the river doesn’t leave everything behind
but she loves
everything she leaves behind
